Reenactment planned for Yakima June 20-21Are you the type who not only saw the movie Gettysburg multiple times but also bought the DVD? Do you have Ken Burns' Civil War series in your video library? Or maybe you'd just like to educate your kids about what the Civil War was REALLY like.
If you answered yes to one or more of the above, then circle the weekend of June 20-21 on your calendar because there will be a major Civil War Reenactment in Union Gap, Washington (near Yakima), as part of the city's Old Town Days.
Yes, they'll dress up in authentic -- or as authentic as possible - Civil War uniforms and they'll carry all the equipment that a Civl War soldier might have been expected to carry. They'll pitch tents and make camp just like the real soldiers. And then you'll want to plug your ears as the firing begins and you get an up-close look at a Civil War battle.
The fighting will be on display at Union Gap's Fullbright Park. It's Father's Day Weekend and it's free so, ladies, no excuse for not taking your warrior husband to see his brothers in arms.
Civil War Camps will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with the fighting reenacted at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday there will even be a Civil War era dance from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
