Lake Chelan festival runs Jan. 16-25While Lake Chelan has been a summer destination for what seems like Eternity, the area has also become known as a great place to visit in winter -- especially during Winterfest. This year, the festival runs from Jan. 16 through Jan. 25 and the locals invite everyone to come and celebrate what has become a North Central Washington favorite for nearly 30 years.
The festival features elaborate ice sculptures -- right out there on the street where you can stroll the downtown shopping area and view some incredible workmanship. Stroll just a bit further and you end up in the beer and wine tent. Or you might end up over at the main stage where there is live music (yes, outdoors, in January).
The Winterfest is considered a true family event and also features a polar bear splash, a big beach bonfire and spectacular fireworks. A nearby ski hill features tubing for all ages.
All the action is downtown and all within easy walking distance, so just leave your car at the hotel or park in one of the ample lots that are set aside for Winterfest visitors.
