Washington opens most craft breweries in U.S.Those who live in Washington State may have already realized it, but the state shot to the head of the class this past year when it opened more craft breweries than any other state in the union.
The stats are for 2014, according to the Washington Brewery Blog. Washington had 83, New York 67, California 59, Colorado 55 -- to name a few states and stats. The blog got its numbers from the national Brewer's Association.
Craft brewing is growing all over the country, the blog reports:
"By year’s end there were 3,418 total craft breweries in the USA, comprised of 1,871 microbreweries, 1,412 brewpubs, and 135 regional breweries. Last year 615 new breweries opened and 46 closed. There are currently 2,051 breweries in planning."
Altogether, craft beer grew by 18 percent in 2014 compared with an increase of overall beer sales of just .5 percent.
The most popular type of craft beer? India Pale Ale represented 22.7 market share when compared “by style.” Pale ale has 16 percent.
Craft beer has about an 11 percent market share of the overall beer market, and 19.3 percent in terms of dollar share, the blog reports.
